During my travels I’ve seen some of the best waterfalls in the world. Niagara Falls, Victoria Falls (the world’s largest waterfall) and Gullfoss in Iceland. As stunning as Victoria Falls was, for me Iguazu Falls in South America was even better.

Just Travelling Through

Hi! My name’s Stuart. Just a normal lad from Yorkshire who travels around the world. I'm here to share my experiences on the road from cities and countries around the world, including some less well-known places off the beaten path.
Six continents down (so far!) and a few years living in Spain. I don't tend to stay in one place for too long. As the name says... Just Travelling Through

From the very first day hiking on Torres del Paine From the very first day hiking on Torres del Paine the view are breathtaking.

If you start in the west of the national park, the hike to Camp Grey takes you to a viewpoint overlooking the local glacier. Once you arrive even the campsite is surrounded by amazing scenery.

One of the most popular hiking destinations in Pat One of the most popular hiking destinations in Patagonia is Torres del Paine national park. And it's easy to see why.

Many people choose the 5 day trek, which has two starting points - either in the east or the west of the national park.

Travelling west to east is the preferred option for the majority of visitors. Mainly due to the fact that you finish at the famous towers, but also because the harder uphill section is done with a lighter bag towards the end of the route.

If you decide to start in the West, you have to take a ferry across Lake Pehoé which gives you your first views of the scenery. A great introduction to what you can expect for your next few days in the national park.

Puerto Natales might not be the biggest town in Pa Puerto Natales might not be the biggest town in Patagonia, but there are two great reasons to visit.

First is the incredible mountain views and the second is this is the best place to get stocked up before tackling the nearby Torres del Paine national park.

Tents, sleeping bags, hiking gear, camping stoves, warm clothes and of course food. You'll find everything you need in Puerto Natales.

For a guide on how to prepare, what you need and what you don't, check out the Torres del Paine preparation post on my website.

One of the most popular hikes in El Chaltén is to One of the most popular hikes in El Chaltén is to Laguna de los Tres.

It's a 21km return trip and takes around 8 hours to complete. The most difficult part is the final kilometre which is much more vertical!

It takes about an hour for this last part. Made much more difficult when it's covered in ice like when I went after a day of heavy snow the day before.

But the views at the top are worth the effort. The three lakes look stunning, especially with a covering of snow around. While in the distance is the dominant image of Mount Fitz Roy

For such a small town in the middle of nowhere, El For such a small town in the middle of nowhere, El Chaltén has plenty of options when it comes to hiking.

Being surrounded by mountains it makes food deliveries (and even cash for the local ATMs) sparse, but when there's such breathtaking scenery all around who cares.

From short walks to a nearby waterfall that take a few hours, to full and multi day hikes to some of the best spots in Patagonia. If you love getting outdoors and being active, El Chaltén is a place not to be missed.

If Mount Fitz Roy in the background looks familiar If Mount Fitz Roy in the background looks familiar it's because it's the inspiration for Patagonia's brand icon.

One of the most famous mountains in Patagonia it sits on the border between Chile and Argentina.

Climbing Mount Fitz Roy is a 4-5 day expedition. Not one of the easiest challenges in Patagonia.

One of the most famous attractions in Patagonia is One of the most famous attractions in Patagonia is Perito Moreno Glacier.

Located a couple of hours from El Calafate, the glacier is 30km long and at its widest over 5km! It's also one of the few glaciers in the world that is actually growing.

To see Perito Moreno Glacier you have 3 options:
-from the walkways
-onboard a boat
-heli hike

The heli hike is the most expensive option, followed by the boat. But you can get much closer to the glacier. While in the boat watch as huge chunks fall off the glacier, causing large waves.

Bonus fact: the town of Perito Moreno is actually nowhere near the glacier of the same name. It's over 600km further north.

El Calafate in the south of Patagonia is the place El Calafate in the south of Patagonia is the place to stay if you want to visit Perito Moreno Glacier.

But there are other things to do in town besides that, and it's worth spending an extra day or so to explore the area.

One stop not to miss is La Aldea de los Gnomos, an outdoor mini shopping mall with cool little bars and shops where you can buy books, crafts or outdoor gear.

It's also home to some funky gnomes that hang around the place and are always ready for a photo.
