You can’t get much further south than Ushuaia. Situated at the bottom of South America in the region of Tierra del Fuego, the very south of Patagonia, it’s the last port of call before heading to the South Pole. However, visiting Ushuaia is not just for those dreaming of following in the footsteps of Scott and Amundsen, as there’s more to the town than just a final calling point before travelling to Antarctica.

One of the most popular destinations in Patagonia is the Perito Moreno Glacier. Located in the south-west of the region, it’s one of the most popular attractions in Patagonia, and for good reason. Perito Moreno Glacier is both impressive and stunning to look at, either from a distance or up close. It’s over 5km at its widest point and an incredible 30km in length. The glacier is actually growing too. Unlike the majority of glaciers around the world, Perito Moreno is still advancing.

One of my favourite places I visited in South America was the small town of El Chaltén. It’s located in the south of Patagonia, close to the Chilean border, in a truly stunning area. Many people visit for hiking and there are some incredible walks to take in. The main highlights are Mount Fitzroy and Laguna de los Tres, one of the best one-day hikes anywhere in the world.
